Anatometal: A Legacy of Excellence in Body Jewelry

Since 1991, Anatometal has been a global leader in handcrafted body jewelry rooted in Santa Cruz, California. Founded by visionary machinist Barry Blanchard, the company was built on a profound respect for the art of piercing and a commitment to creating jewelry that embodies beauty and integrity.

From Machinist to Industry Pioneer

Barry Blanchard's journey into the body jewelry industry began in 1991. With a machining background dating back to age 15, he was initially hesitant when approached by a friend from a tattoo shop about the burgeoning demand for high-quality body jewelry. However, a visit to the studio revealed a clear opportunity, inspiring Blanchard to develop superior jewelry.

He began his experiments during work breaks, focusing on ASTM metals, including the then-emerging titanium. His objective was to craft pieces that were aesthetically pleasing but also safe, durable, and high-performing. By 1993, Blanchard dedicated himself full-time to Anatometal. Collaborating with his cousin, who specialized in gold casting, they began producing solid 18K gold jewelry, establishing an unparalleled standard of craftsmanship that remains central to the brand's in-house production philosophy today.

Shaping Industry Standards

Anatometal has played a foundational role in the modern body piercing industry's development. As the first corporate member of the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), the company was instrumental in establishing many of the safety and quality standards that govern the industry. Barry actively participated in early APP meetings, contributing to the definition of minimum requirements for safe, professional body jewelry.

Furthermore, Anatometal manufactured jewelry for Gauntlet, the United States' first professional body piercing studio, founded by Jim Ward. This connection strategically positioned Anatometal at the forefront of what would become a global body piercing movement. The company also contributed significantly to the development of universal threading for body jewelry, enhancing ease of use for piercers and ensuring consistent, high-quality results for clients.

Purpose-Driven Craftsmanship

Anatometal's jewelry is designed with a clear purpose: to facilitate beautiful and successful piercings. Barry Blanchard's philosophy has always prioritized listening to body piercers, understanding the nuances of how jewelry affects piercings, how they heal, and how it is worn over time. This user-centric approach continues to guide every aspect of the design and finishing process. Every detail is intentional, crafted to meet the highest standards of safety and aesthetics, ensuring clients receive nothing less than exceptional quality.

Anatometal's history is a testament to setting benchmarks, leading with integrity, and an unwavering commitment to quality. What began with one machinist's vision has evolved into a global symbol of excellence in professional body jewelry. True to its origins, every piece continues to be meticulously crafted in Santa Cruz, California, embodying the principle that excellence isn't outsourced; it is built here.
